Wednesday Heckuv Late Post

Sorry yal for the late post (I usually do them Wednesdays thangs) things have been kind of a mess lately between finals ending and planning for a once a month party I’m throwing with DJ Pryme..it's gonna be the jump-off for real fo rio. It’s gonna be hot sauce; save your tips. Anyway Since things are going sort of busy right now I decided to just post my reviews I did for RainyDawg radio. They’re a little more formal than I’d put on this blog but that’s how it is.

Velella Velella – Fight Club EP
Spokane natives, Velella Velella (now Seattleites) have just released this EP and it is a banger. Their sound sounds much more refined and distinct in this EP. The first track, "Alex Boom Selector", is a great last-call Saturday night/really-Sunday-morning party dance track. The song is steady a build-up with lyrics like “Move your feet/Shake your fists” which culminates into “Don’t need no money/It’s Sunday morning” which at this point sounds like the most profound thing you’ve realized all night. The third track, “Cause Those People Get Free Airline Tickets” begins with guitar distortion and then transforms into a psychedelic synthesized dance track with a vocoded melody. The last song, “Brass Ass” is a slower song but loaded with electric pianos and retro square lead melodies. A definite must have for all contemporary Seattleite music-heads.

Mr. Oizo - Moustache (Half a Scissor)
Famous for his electro track, “Flat Beat”, Mr. Oizo proves he is still on the cutting edge for the French electro scene. This album is much more “electro” sounding than his 1999 release “When Analog Worms Attach”. His choppy sampling style from his first LP is still heard in this album but complemented nicely with dark electro stabs. This can be heard in the hypnotic melody of “Latex”. “1$44” is another dark track (seems to be a theme for this album) with a funky syncopated synth layered over a simple drum loop that unexpectedly sounds doper, but not doper than “Half a scissor”. This song is mad hype. Starts off with some crazy highly ring modulated sample that acts like percussion and then a little over a minute the banger starts. Drums are over-compressed but it makes the snare have that oh so “Ed Banger” crunch. Check it out!

Roy is cooking in the kitchen with my ex-roommate Brenton. Two wonderful men battling over me basically. I got some cool new disco stuff for next Wednesday so keep it up!
